I'm just a typical parent. I work all day, and I send my children to public school. They call it a free education, but it's not. I'm always being asked to shell out money for lunches, field trips, you name it. It also takes a good amount of effort to get them out the door on time for the bus each morning. So forgive me, but I just can't understand why my kids don't know shit!
Kids these days don't know how to cook, behave in public, clean a wound, take care of their pets, or tie their shoes. They lack motivation and discipline. As soon as they get home they turn on the children's cable TV channels and watch until they get tired enough to go to bed. Just once I'd like to see my kids doing something worthwhile!
Another thing is that my kids aren't very well behaved. Don't schools still teach moral lessons on things like not lying and not hurting animals? If they are then it's not working! My kids lie right to my goddamn face. They throw rocks at chipmunks. And any time I turn my back they either break something or hurt themselves. Why don't they teach them to keep their hands to themselves?
To me, the clearest sign of our failing schools is how my kids sometimes act up. It's obvious to me that they're not getting enough attention from their teachers. They just love to piss me off by climbing all over the furniture and smudging up the walls. Don't they get enough of that all day at school? I wonder!
On top of it all, these teachers still try to pass their jobs off on us parents. They send home sign off sheets for homework and stuff. They guilt us into joining PTA groups, then shut us down when we tell them how to do their jobs. But if you back off and become less involved they'll accuse you of being bad parents. They seem to think we're the only ones to blame for the failures of our children. It just goes to show how out of touch they are.

I 100% agree. teachers nowadays are just fucking lazy!!!! they dont have the dermination like they use too! what happened with smacking kids with rulers when they werent paying attention or not behaving.the teachers want the parents to do most of the dirty work, signing homework sheets, volunteering at the little brats school, donating books and supplys cus the school is so over crowded. well excuse me all you teachers out there! do your jobs! and do it the right way! i gave birth to the little hellions all you could to do give back to society and make sure my kid gets a good education!!!
Just wondering what part you feel that you play in your children's education... It seems that most of the things that you mention (cooking, taking care of pets, tying shoes) are a parent's obligation to teach their children. You say that they come home and turn on TV and watch it until bed... Who let's them do that? Maybe they do need more attention, but have you ever considered that it's your attention they need. Why not limit their TV watching and DO things with them. Have them help you prepare the meals, and wash the dishes. Read to them instead of letting the TV be a babysitter. Most of the shows on TV are about hyperactive, trouble-making kids and their antics... can you blame your kids for emulating what they see? Also, what do you do when your kids lie to you? Do you lie to them or do they see you lying to others? Teaching them about the value of truth (even when it's harder to tell it than a lie) is NOT a teacher's responsibility. I'm not a teacher but I AM a parent and I think that raising your kids to have values, work ethics, and morals is the parents responsibility NOT the teachers or the TV.
Sounds like you're having parental issues, morals and values are taught by parents. If you don't have enough time to teach your kids, why did you have them?
So it is the public schools fault YOUR kids are bastards? Sounds like the only thing you do when you get home is turn ESPN on and do absolutely nothing until bedtime. This is exactly what is wrong with America, we expect freedom and entitlement, and when we are granted these privileges, we still place the blame on the state when things do not go according to plan.
Ummm, perhaps you could do these things. And schools dont teach morals, if anything they should be teaching ethics. That maybe semantics but as a parent you need to know the difference. Just because you work doesnt mean you get to be a lazy parent. Take away the remote or the gaming system and try to establish a relationship with your children. Clown.
.... And teachers are responsible now for the social rearing of children?
How about trying to be involved in your child's education. Do you attend parent-teacher conferences? Do you oversee your child's schoolwork? Doyou read to your child? Does your child observe you read? Crossword puzzles don't count?
Is education valued at home or do you look at teachers as enhanced babysitters responsible for making sure your kid grows up to be "good."
furthermore, teachers work with what they're given.
in quick laymen computer programming terms: garbage in, garbage out.
You are a terrible parent. Stop blaming your bad parenting on public schools.
"Kids these days don't know how to cook, behave in public, clean a wound, take care of their pets, or tie their shoes."
These are all things that parents teach children, not teachers.
"They lack motivation and discipline."
Again, this is your responsibility - or did you just not bother with this in the 6 or so years before they went to school?
"As soon as they get home they turn on the children's cable TV channels and watch until they get tired enough to go to bed."
So you're an uninvolved parent who doesn't bother to interact with your children.
Not surprising you're the type to cast blame on everyone but yourself.
hey you self righteous parent leave jocelyn alone!!! who actually reads to their kids anymore?!? why do we have pbs and all those kid shows then if they arent suppose to substitute as a babystitter? duhhhhh
How about actually being a parent and teaching your kids the values you feel they're not being taught in school? But then again, I guess that would involve you being responsible for the things over which you can actually take control, instead of relying on a government-provided institution to do everything for you? Because it's certainly due to the failures of the public school system that are causing your kids to become lying, animal-torturing, destructive twits, not your obvious lack of parenting skills or complete unwillingness to accept any kind of responsibility for your children's actions.
Why would she read to her kids? Only poor people without cable do that. Not to mention that there are a lot of educational programs on these days.
...because writing a blog on the tubes about how horrible your kids are is a sure way to fix them...
this is the problem with people like Jocelyn. I wonder how soon her daughter is going to be pimped out. at the way it looks rite now it will be they only income for the whole family. But then again considering she is a welfare wanna be it should poboly put her in the next tax bracket.
All you know-it-alls think you know better? You try raising 7 kids from five different daddies. If the school cant do its fair share Im going to have to give them up, which is fine cause im expecting soon with my boyfriends baby and he dont like all those others around cause he thinks they'll tell on us
so sorry you actually have to be a mother and contribute to raising your kids.
Want a truly no cost school where you won't be asked for cash left and right - home school.
Otherwise, stop moaning about what the teachers are or aren't teaching. They have enough to deal with considering all the rules and regulations jammed up their asses, not to mention so much standardized testing that they need the kids to pass (great useless "No Child Left Behind" law, Dubya) if they hope to get funding to buy those 10 year old history books that are too damn overpriced.
Maybe you can duct tape your kids to the couch and flip the TV from WWE to the Science channel and make them the next Fermi and Madame Curie.
It's all the government's fault for outlawing beatings. Back in my day the principal would take a ping pong paddle to my behind if I so much as looked at her sideways.
Amazing a person like that can figure out how to turn the computer on...
the problem is that she can't figure out to take the white out off the screen when she makes a mistake. Like her kids
Come on you are suppose to teach your kids how to behave an mother on this earth would know that. I have 4 kids 3 have ADHD don't hear me complaining about the schools i deal with it just like you should if you don't wnat to deal with schools home school. If that's not an option quit complaining.
You want teachers who are already underpaid and sometimes overcrowded with kids to teach your children and do for them what their parents should be doing? What a lazy parent you and whoever else agreed with this post are. You wanted kids, then become a parent and teach them and raise them. Don't place the expectations upon someone else. Teachers are here to teach our children education. Not how to not lie or behave like animals. That's YOUR job. maybe you should look at yourself and how you act and then begin to wonder where your children are picking it up from....
Teachers need to take responsibility for their actions! Just because they're underpaid doesn't mean they can just let the kids do whatever they want.
What makes you think that the teachers would do any better if we paid them more? Being underpaid is no excuse for sub-par performance.
God is this f'd up! When parents can't take responsibility for their own shortcomings they will place blame elsewhere. It ALL starts at home.
Some people are part of the problem and some are part of the solution. I can see which you choose to be (THE PROBLEM).
The best way to teach is by example.
Children should be taught to drill for oil, as it is likely to be in short supply in the future and they need to keep warm.
Not only do the teachers blame parents but they also get a lot of holidays. With all that free time surely they could figure out a better way of teaching kids proper life lessons. They could at least teach them that the dog is not a furry cover for a mobile phone. And that blue toilet water is not for washing. Its for the dishes.
To all you people posting hurtful messages to Jocelyn: You are dumb. Because if you read the article, you would see she works all day. Therefore common sense would tell you she is tired. Teachers don't do anything except grade a few papers and sit around the teachers lounge sipping cappuccino all the time. They need to get off their asses and do their jobs.
Wow, you are beyond stupid. I didn't know it was the schools job to teach your kids to cook. And actually some schools do, its called home ec. If your kids come straight home and just watch tv thats your problem and your fault. Its because of your lazyness that your kids don't know any of that.
YOU ARE YOUR CHILD'S FIRST TEACHER. YOU ARE ONE OF THE ONE'S THAT SHOULDN'T HAVE HAD CHILDREN.
Nice to see Josie's still keeping it real.
Best blog ever, IMO.
my wife is a teacher and a problem all too common today, is that you are the atypical parent. You look at your child with rose coloured glasses yet fail to listen when real educational problems arise. Yet you deem it her duty to teach these life's lessons, when they should be EARNED through example, from what they see at home. So no wonder it is a slight to you to see your child the way you do, because it is how you are yourself (and sadly, also likely how your parents were before you). It is amazing to me that parents like you even have children, babysitting them with the tv, and looking to outsource your parental duties. your generation was given great leniancy in this aspect with all the technological advances, and a lot of luck in that you can now use them to your "advantage". It should be no wonder, that so many students look up to their teachers as hero's and the problem students who are lazy and cause shit are the kin of sloths like you.
I have 2 kids, and I am a single mom. I work, get my kids to the babysitter every morning, help with homework, go to almost every parent/teacher conference. My kids are well behaved and do well in school. I don't expect a TEACHER to raise my kids. I raise my kids. All you parents that think that its the teacher's and the TV's job to raise your kids, shouldn't be parents.
Take time to be with your kids and TEACH them to be upstanding citizens!
Lady, your kids act the way they do because YOU don't teach them how to act!!! They should have known how to act BEFORE they went to school. When YOU were teaching them to walk, crawl, etc etc. Or did you leave that to someone else to do?
Just a little hint...if your child is hurting animals this is pre-emptive to being a murderer when they are an adult. They need some serious help...seriously. My school does not only not have a cappucino machine, there is no teacher room! Where would I teach your little darling to cook? Should I tell the other 25 classmates that they need to lay their head down while I go take your little Jenny down to the kitchen to learn how to use a toaster? Why don't you cook for her? Whether this article was off the cuff or not, you ought to be dropped in the middle of the woods somewhere in Canada and your children need to go to a good home.
LMAO - Everything you are bitching about is a PARENT'S RESPONSIBILITY to teach their children. I teach 3rd grade, and my job is to EDUCATE. It is not my job to teach cooking, shoe tieing and pet care. Parents like you are the PROBLEM. I am guessing your kids act like little shits in the classroom and take the learning away from everyone around them. Parents like you make me SICK.
I am a teacher and I think your comments are borderline insane. All of your complaints should be things that YOU teach you child. I feel bad for your kids, no wonder they act up around you. Maybe next time they "act up" you should teach them the proper way to act. Why did you have kids if you aren't going to raise them to be good people. We only see you kids for 8 hours a day, 9 months a year. I can only imagine what the teachers say about you.

JOSTLIN'TESTES HARDER!! LOFL
I discovered your fine stuff just recently (at about the same time I created a Facebook profile for myself- a high school reunion in hellish perpetuity), and I'm astounded at the number of people who just don't get Jocelyns Corner. The comments/responses to this particular posting are just a few (dozen) examples of what I'm talking about.
Anyway, you do great, witty, and insightful writing, and I certainly appreciate it. I just wish I could remember how I stumbled upon your blog. Thanks for all.
[My URL "contains illegal characters"], so I guess I'll be another "Anonymous" troll for now. I'm sorry.

Your from Virgina so i am not surprised by your lack of intelligence. I feel sorry for your kids, guess that's why your husband left.
You pepole got no gadang sensis. Jocelyns just reglar pepole. Work all the day, and then what?? Take a care a kids nite? Fine, but dont make ujs pay texes then. Asholes.
Public and most private schools are indoctrination centers for the spawn of commoners.
America's elite class sends their vile spawn to the "proper" private academies where the "special ones" brats are taught reality vice the indoctrination and brainwashing.
Want your offspring to be droids, bleating brainwashed sheep taught to obey authority so as to support the status quo used by the elite class to fleece the citizen-sheep? Well, then send your progeny to the typical school.
Want your brats to obey "authority" even if that "authority" is unworthy of being obeyed and is likely merely present to keep the commoners in their lowly positions in life? Then allow the brainwashed buffoonish instructors at schools mold your offspring into robot-like entities who are acceptable to your elite-class masters.
Whatever you do, just ensure your spawn are taught to obey.
No questions. Just do as you are told. On the job, at home and out and about in public.
Just obey authority at all times and resist any urge for independent thought or action.
Wow. Really?
Parents like you are the reason our education system is failing. Education starts at home. I have a two and three year old. I have already taught them all their colors, how to read small words and how to count to ten. My oldest can even tie his own shoes. The reason is because i actually give my kids all the love and discipline they need to succeed in life. If you want your kids to behave take away their tv and video games. I can see why your husband left you ignorant fool that you are. Schools don't teach morals parents do. You want your children to know how to clean a wound aend them to a first aid class or put them in boy or girl scout's there they might find a good adult for a role model.
Sounds like you need a visit from Children and Family Services to me.
That is incredibly hypocritical.
You're the parent of your child, not the teachers. If you bring your kid up to be a little rat, how is it the teacher's fault? Half an elementary school teacher's day consists of crowd control.. who brought the children up to be so disrespectful... the teachers? No. Of course there are bad teachers, just like any professional has its fair share of incompetent workers. But the greatest teachers in the world can't teach a class of 20+ hyperactive 21st century cockroaches who don't know the difference between 'Please' and 'Fuck off, miss'.
Too many parents are preoccupied with drugs, alcohol and television to teach their own children basic manners, and they put that on the school.
I think you should rephrase the title.. how about "Blame the Teachers.. for our mistakes!" Yes I think that fits.
Well, as a current educator in today's education system, I must say that most if not all of your claims are really in left field. "Blame the teachers!" Your tag line could be no further from reality.
Let's take a look at today's education system. Overcrowded classrooms, limited budgets, kids that would rather gossip about the latest Facebook craze than think about their education, and administrators that are no more help than a trained monkey.
The "basic skills" as you have described are things that should be taught at home. I learned these things from home from an early age. Teachers are not parents, and they are NOT babysitters. In my class, if the student does not want to learn and continually acts up, I throw them out---plain and simple.
"Teachers should give the kids more attention..."
Sounds like to me that you need to get up off your butt and take your kids to a park, or a walk, or something that would promote family time. Parents these days (including you it seems like) would rather blame everybody but themselves when it comes to their child's behaviour and education.
Teachers are overworked, underpaid, work 80+ hours a week (oh yes, we work weekends, holidays, and summers) to plan, grade, and try to "give a quality education" to your brats of a brood. You should be blaming yourself rather than the teachers. We are doing the best damn job that we can with what we have to work with. You should really think about what you are teaching your own children. Repect, morals, etc. should come from home, not from teachers who should be concerned about teaching their subject matter, but instead have to babysit the kids that you and other parents put through the system.
Education is a privilege, not a right, and you and your kids should be happy that you have a school to send your kids to. Teachers are lazy? Sounds like you need a wake up call, and maybe some parenting classes.
Oh wait, teachers would have to teach that, so I guess that is out. Grow up and take some responsibility.
First of all I have to say - Joycelyn, you are an intelligent woman and your blogs are funny as hell. Must take one hell of a woman to not feed into all the morons replying to your posts w/ their ignorant comments and worthless use of their native language. And to choose "anonymous"? Please. Obviously the products of those overworked and underpaid teachers.
Now to those claiming to be a part of the educational system... I have to say there is probably about 1% who do as you say. Most parents I know as well as myself are well aware of how hard it is to get a response from a teacher either by phone or email OUTSIDE of school hours when the rest of us our working our asses off to pay for all these "overworked and underpaid" teachers out there along w/ the thousands of dollars we put into our kids well-being INCLUDING these ridiculous "fees" for public schools. If you live near a school or in a school district then you already know how much higher your taxes are so what the hell am I paying these extra school "fees" for?? I buy all their school supplies and extras - not only for later on when they need them, but also so that the teachers will have some extra in case another students parents couldn't afford it.
I agree, there ARE a lot of misbehaved kids in these schools that make it harder to teach the kids but it's YOUR JOB AS AN EDUCATION PROVIDER that you WILLINGLY CHOSE as your career to do your damndest to TEACH those kids and not just pass them through the school system to become the next generation of morons.
I'm not saying to blame the teachers b/c I blame the parents of the kids that disrupt the learning for MY kids every bit as much, if not more, than you; But don't you DARE say that education in America is a PRIVILEGE when it's more of a forceful act against parents who may have no other choice but to send their kids to these RIDICULOUS public schools where they face more danger and less education than anywhere they would willingly choose to go.
Let me know where you are so I can leave my job and move there so my kids can get this "privileged education" and I can get more interaction from the school and the teachers when I don't feel like my job is threatened b/c I need to take time off of work to talk to one of these 80+ hour a week teachers. Until then, STFU and do your job or GO HOME!!!!
if you're searching for a way to have your children being well raised AND not doing it yourself, give them up for adoption.
All the things you're complaining about are a parents'job and responsability towards society (you're suppose to teach your children the difference between good and bad, that stealing/lying is wrong, etc)
So move YOUR ass et stop blaming other people for your mistakes and laziness.
duuuuuuuuuuuuumb cuuuuuuuuuuuuunt
Uh just a thought here but maybe you should try...you know like disciplining your kids. Its not the teachers job to raise the kids. The kids need to come to them with the building blocks of life pretty much implanted on them by their parents. So the fact that your kids are "acting up" well a) their kids, they tend to do that and b) try taking away the things they like, like tv or grounding them.
Umm last time i checked its your job to teach your kids things like cooking and cleaning wounds and the teachers job to teach them how to do math which (ha haha) i'm sure you don't know how to do.
I think you cracked out of turn there, 'Bill'.
I clearly need to read more before I can wrap my head around this, but after reading six or so of your posts, this one just blew my top.
I simply cannot get over how many ultra-Literals there are in this country. And some of them are even elementary school teachers- then again, I guess that might help explain why ultra-Literalism is spreading like a plague....
Is this a joke? Your blaming all of these things on Teachers? They are your kids, not the teachers. You need to take some personal responsibility. All of the things that you mentioned are not things taught in schools anyways. Your kids misbehave because you let them. Schools dont teach moral lessons actually. Teachers will punish kids who hit other kids or who are out of line, but its only so that they can continue with the lesson. its up to you to teach your kids the life lessons that they need. Sounds like you should spend more time raising you kids, and less time on your blog while they are watching T.V. all night long. Or is it that the math that they do is to hard for you too? Im tired of parents thinking there kids should just somehow magically acquire information about the world without being taught. take some personal responsibility as a parent and stop blaming everyone else
i have to agree some teachers dont do their job right. why do they send notes home saying "please work with your child with" whatever it maybe. im thinking thats what i pay you for with my tax money! and what the hell is this shit coming home with a shit ton of homework? as if they just didnt spend 7 hours doin school work! that just shows teachers are just there to get paid to me!
You as a parent need to take action and teach your kids as well. Why should it be up to the teacher to teach your child morals and how to behave? That is your job. You are supposed to teach them. The reason why teachers are like they are is because they are limited on what they are ALLOWED to do. Teachers get paid squat and put up with TONS of shit. Because of your lack of parenting skills teachers are forced to deal with unruly kids that they have to put up with, Back in my day parents taught kids what they needed to learn to be civil human beings and teachers taught them Reading, Writing and Arithmetic. That is a teachers job. You do your part, they do theirs. Take responsibility for your own actions and stop blaming others!
Teachers are there to teach math, science, physical education(health, sex ed), language.
Babysitters, are there to wipe your kids ass, feed, cloth them, make sure they don't stay up to late.
I bet you don't know the meaning of the word parent?
Wow. I am nearly speechless at the moment. Please, explain to me, what do you do each day with your children? Have you ever been into a classroom where there is one teacher with 26 children running around? There is one thing you are right about, not all kids get as much attention as they should from their teacher. However, here is what you are missing: it's because of children like your own. I would love to know why you had children to just push them off on someone else? It is your responsibility to teach your kids manners, respect, cooking, cleaning, etc. Where were you the first 5 years of their life, when the start of these values should have been instilled in their heads? I know they were not in school during that time - so what is it that you were doing? If your kids are rude to, or disrespect you, that is your own fault. You are the parent. Not their friend. It is your job to raise them, not the job of somebody else. I feel bad for teachers because of people like you who send their child to school.
One day your children will have sex for money. Teachers can easily spot parents like you.
I think birth control pills should be over the counter! BTW most of your posters should acquaint themselves with the Dunning-Kruger effect. You are the best Jocelyn!
Just because you have a uterus, doesn't make you a mother; and you are definitely not a Mom! Child Protective Services should take your children away from you.
You are really twisted in the head if you think a teacher is supose to teach your child all these things. I kbow single moms who has taught their child more than YOU!! I don't care if you work 24 hours a day, your children are your responsibility. What the heck were you doing when your children was 2 and was doing something bad? Sounds to me all you have ever done was work and lay with your legs open!
I'm a special ed teacher and I'm sure all of your kids are in my type of classes because they can't behave and think everything should be handed to them instead of working for it. School is NOT a daycare and your kids probably get more attention from the teachers than they should...and not for educational purposes, but because they are disciplining them and taking away time from the kids who actually want to learn and work towards their goals. As a mother, you disgust me. You are not a mother, you are just the egg donor. One day I hope those kids get a chance away from you to see that there is better and they are so far behind and in a deep hole because of you. What a way to help your own children... show them that if they are lazy and do nothing if you bitch loud enough it will just be handed to you. I would hate to be the teacher of your kids because I would have to work with you who doesn't care. You know, there is a place where people can go and learn and have someone to watch their every move and discipline the way you want. Good for you that it is where your kids will end up...jail.
First of all, I can not believe the cursing that is on this blog. Second, it is not the schools to make your child a model student or person. I worked for the school system for 15 years, and I have come across a lot of great teachers and administrators but still couldn't straighten out a lot of kids and you know why? Basically, because it is YOUR job to do this not the school. Too many parents are just plain lazy, and won't do what it takes to raise their kids the way they are suppose to be raised. That is why I can't understand if you can't be a responsible parent in all ways, then why did you have them. STOP PTB - Passing The Buck and raise them properly yourself!!
Good sense of humour.
Nice to see the support for the teachers in the comments though.
You are about as deep as a puddle.
I am a teacher and actually lived in Richmond, Virginia. I also went to a very prestigous college in another part of Virginia. I chose to teach because that is what I wanted to do. I love working with the kids. The absolute mother fucking thing I hate is white trash ignorant parents who expect everyone to provide, nurture, and love their children. You sit on you lazy ass and want everyone to do everything for your children. You probably want the teachers to wipe their asses too. The amazing thing is that I was looking up ideas for teaching my math lesson tomorrow and stumbled upon this trash. Yes it is 10:00p.m and I am working as I always do at night. I work a 90 hour work week and I practically live at the school. Teachers do not get paid for the summer. The same salary is spread over 12 months or 9 months. It is a parent's job to make certain that your children have social skills. If they can't sit down, listen, and pay attention, they probably will not be the brightest of the crayons in the box. I feel very sorry for your children. Their are so many people that want to and would be good parents, but that cannot have children. Your children should become wards of the state. They would be better off. Oh, and to the who's your daddy and mama club-sew it up or cut it off. If you don't want to have kids stop fuckin random people. Why would anyone have7 babies with different daddys???????
Apparently, you have ALOT of time on your hands. Perhaps you should get a job. I am tired of paying for the Who's your parent Jerry Springer peeps.
I'm a teenager. I go to public school and I've always gone to public school. I can (and have been able to for many years) cook, clean, take care of my dog, clean a wound, perform CPR, respect people and animals, and even though we have cable I spend most of my afternoons either painting or reading. My teachers didn't teach me how to do any of that. My parents showed me to have integrity and encouraged me to do productive things with my time and they read with me and did things with me when I was younger rather than complain about what huge failures me and my teachers were on a blog.
A child is the reflection of the parents wisdom and love. They are your legacy. My child is my signature on life. I am a single father and had her at a young age. I am proud to say that I work harder than her teacher at raising her as it should be. I am the bottom line with my child, not the teacher. I agree that schools are falling short in many areas, but if I wanted someone else to raise my kid I would have put her up for adoption. Education is a privilege, not a
right. It is my job to raise them, not some government institution. My child does not watch television, loves to read, gets good grades, plays violin, soccer, aikido. I don't even make much money. She buys her own toys except Xmas and b days. I'm very strict, but very loving we still cuddle and play together often. My daughter is happy she has a loving caring parent who puts her in her place and raises her as though she is a blessing, not a curse.
EDUCATION BEGINS AT HOME! PARENTS RESPONSIBILITY TO PREPARE THEIR KIDS FOR THE SOCIAL PLATFORM.
AND AS FOR THE EXPECTATIONS PARENTS THINK THE TEACHERS ARE IMPOSING ON THEM - THE "NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND ACT OF 2001" WILL CLEAR UP ANY CONFUSION.
SO BEFORE THE FAULT-FINDERS SAY ANOTHER SLAG ON TEACHERS, GO TO AND ENTER THE ACRONYM "NCLB" IN THE SEARCH WINDOW. READ IN DETAIL WHAT IS REALLY AT STAKE. THE MORE THAT IS UNDERSTOOD ABOUT THE nclb ACT OF 2001, THE LESS COMPULSION TO "BLAME TEACHERS". FURTHERMORE, COMPLAINING AT ANY LEVEL WILL BE TIRESOME AND FRUITLESS.
FAR BETTER TO HAVE ONE'S KID READ ALOUD FOR A MERE 20 MINS A DAY IS TRULY THE 1ST STEP TOWARD RESOLVE FOR EVERYONE.
AND NO, I AM NOT A TEACHER, BUT I WILL DEFEND THEIR HONOR. kIDS NEED US ADULTS TO DEMONSTRATE DIPLOMACY TO RESOLVE MIS-UNDERSTANDINGS.
UNITED WE STAND. DIVIDED WE FALL.
WHAT'S IT GOING TO BE?
BALLS IN YOUR COURT JOCELYN.
Well, it hardly looks like there's anything left to be said in response to your completely retarded post. Your kids are VICTIMS of their mother, nothing more. What you need is a real heavy dose of empathy for teachers, but with your head shoved so far up your bunghole I doubt you ever see the light of day. Like you said, you're too busy making sure you GET whats YOURS. I'll be praying for your kids teachers, because with parents like you they really deserve even more holidays.
Okay, some of the things I read were just hurtful. However, they are correct education does not stop when your child leaves the school grounds. Now to clear up some myths:
1) Teacher sit around in the teachers lounge all day. Teachers barely get 5 minutes for lunch so the lounge is a room most rarely see the inside of.
2)Teacher have a tons of free time. Like hell they do! You think your job is hard try being a teacher for a week. They cannot grade in the classroom this is something they must take home every night. Their job does not stop when they walk out of the building. No they bring home 3-6 hours of work each day. Then they are grading, make their assignments and classwork up for the following week on the weekends. My sister-in-law never has time for her children because she never has a day without doing something required by law to be done each week.
3) Summer vacation? What summer vacation she has to start paperwork for the following year, go to this and that all of which is required so that she can keep her teaching certificate.
4) All they do is sit. BS! They must be standing at all times in the classroom.
My sister-in-law has so much work to do when she comes home that my spouse and I cook for her family once a week. Teaching your kids is the hardest damn job in the world! I don't see how she does it, god knows I would have done quit. Then she has to deal with parents like you. That believe you know whats what when you don't know shit. How about finding out the truth before you blame the teachers...
I am late to this discussion but I have to write. The original essay is the dumbest piece of writing I can remember reading.
Most of the people on here are right but teachers forget that they themselves are not god and any parent can do your job and be teachers what people are saying is don't think your doing anymore work than anybody else in the world your not!!!! And you get payed well for having 3 months off a year you chose to be a teacher so shut the fuck up or quit your job
Wow, I actually thought this was a joke at first ... The ignorance shown here is astounding.
Why is it the school's job to feed your child? Why is it the school's job to teach your child morals or to tie their shoes?
Why isn't this mother discipling her children? Is this mother expecting the school to raise her children? Maybe her children aren't learning because they have no role model at home to show them the value of education.
I sincerely fear for the future of this country.
Stop blaming teachers and take a good hard look at yourself.
I can't believe some people are actually agreeing with this ignorant mother. One poster even said the teachers need to take more responsibility... WHAT??? Teachers are taking on far more than than ever, and far more than they should.
Ignorance has truly reached epidemic proportions.
Maybe the title of your post should be "Blame the parents for enabling their children!" I'm sure your children know your opinion of their teachers and this also accounts for their behavior. It's a waste of time to argue, you can't win an arguement with ignorance. The language you use in your original post also speaks volumes about the person you are and the values you uphold...thena gain, I'm sure that we can blame the teachers you had for not raising you correctly?
